NSW is currently in drought affected conditions, with the entire state of NSW being officially declared in drought as at the end of July 2018. According to the Department of Primary Industries, “the end of July 2018 places up to 48% of the state (NSW) as Drought Affected, 37% in Drought and 15% in Intense Drought.” The effect of drought on farmers has been front and centre on the news, and this led the team at Bluebloods to wonder if drought had an effect on the quality of horses produced in times of low rainfall. In order to quantify this, the data had to be specific and quite narrowly focused given the broad nature of the Australian racing industry.
