Black Caviar, world champion sprinter, is a Victorian product with both her sire and damsire standing in the southern state. To have her statue proudly displayed in her hometown of Nagambie demonstrates her connection to Victoria and to Nagambie.

Bred by Rick Jamieson of Gilgai Farms, Black Caviar was offered for sale through Swettenham Stud’s draft at the Inglis Melbourne Yearling Sale and sold to Peter Moody Racing for $210,000, excellent buying in hindsight for a mare who went on to earn over $7million and become a legend. She had only one start outside of black type company – her debut run over 1,000m as a two year-old in the VRC Cromwell Handicap (April 2009) where she trounced her opposition by five lengths. From there it was all stakes races – another 24 victories including fifteen at Gr.1 level – simply astounding in the modern era.
